New Online Portal Launched for Western Sydney Airport Flight Path Updates

The construction of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is progressing swiftly, with the airport scheduled to open its doors in 2026. This major infrastructure project is set to boost the local economy, create jobs, and address Sydney’s increasing aviation demands. The Australian Government has committed substantial investment in this project, establishing the Western Sydney Airport Corporation (WSA Co) to oversee its delivery. For more detailed information, you can visit the WSA Co website at www.westernsydney.com.au.

WSI will operate as a full-service airport, offering international, domestic, and freight services without a curfew. A comprehensive environmental assessment conducted in 2015-16 has guided the development of measures to minimize the impact of the airport’s construction and operation on nearby communities.

The Australian Government is responsible for developing the flight paths for WSI’s initial single runway operations by the end of 2026. The preliminary design and environmental assessment phase is currently underway. A draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which outlines the proposed flight paths and assesses their potential noise, social, and environmental impacts, is now available for public review. The draft EIS is open for public exhibition from 24 October 2023 to 31 January 2024, providing an opportunity for the community to offer feedback.

The digital version of the draft EIS, along with supporting materials and information on how to submit feedback, can be accessed on the newly launched WSI airspace and flight path design Online Community Portal at www.WSIflightpaths.gov.au. The portal also features details about upcoming community information events where residents can discuss the draft EIS with the Flight Paths Team.
