Sydney is set to welcome a significant upgrade to its transport infrastructure with the opening of the $2.6 billion Sydney Gateway project this September and it is a sydney airport new toll-free gateway. This new road network will connect the St Peters Interchange and the M8 directly to Sydney Airport’s International and Domestic Terminals, promising to save commuters an estimated 17 minutes of travel time, all without any additional toll charges.

The Sydney Gateway project is designed to enhance the efficiency of travel to and from the airport. It features a flyover into the domestic terminal, two striking arched bridges around the international terminal, and extensive upgrades to Airport Drive. These improvements aim to reduce congestion and streamline access for both passengers and airport workers.
The new route will bring noticeable changes to the traffic flow around the airport precinct. While travellers from Parramatta will enjoy a more direct and faster journey, routes from the North Shore, Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, and South Sydney will largely remain unchanged. Drivers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new connections and lane changes to avoid any confusion as the opening date approaches.
Set to officially open on September 1, the Sydney Gateway will not only provide a toll-free alternative for daily commuters but will also ease the burden on existing routes by accommodating around 100,000 trucks daily. Additionally, the project includes three kilometres of new pedestrian and cycle paths along Alexandra Canal, featuring planned Indigenous artwork, enhancing the experience for all users.
