At 29, Cripps made history on Monday night, receiving 45 Brownlow votes—the highest ever—to win the medal again. Collingwood’s rising star, Nick Daicos, also had a great season, finishing second with 38 votes.

Cripps admitted this season had been his most consistent, but noted there’s still room for growth in his leadership as Carlton’s captain.

During his Brownlow acceptance speech, Cripps shared how a podcast featuring Collingwood legend Scott Pendlebury had influenced him. After last year’s grand final, where Pendlebury led Collingwood to victory, Cripps realized the importance of controlling the game in crucial moments.
“Pendlebury talked about his mindset in the final minutes of the grand final. I’m not at that level yet, but it’s something I’m working on,” said Cripps.
He added, “As a leader, it’s not just about getting the best out of yourself, but also your team.”
Carlton’s Ambitions
Born in 1995, the same year as Carlton’s last AFL premiership, Cripps is determined to help the team return to greatness. Carlton showed promise this season but fell short in the elimination final.
“We’re a good club at the moment, but not a great club—yet. We have some work to do, but I know we can achieve amazing things,” Cripps said.
He praised coach Michael Voss, a former Brisbane premiership captain, for guiding the team forward. Voss presented Cripps with the Brownlow Medal, as last year’s winner Lachie Neale was preparing for the grand final.
Personal Milestones
Since winning his first Brownlow Medal, Cripps has had major life changes, including marrying his wife Monique and welcoming their daughter, Koda. Reflecting on his journey, Cripps said, “I’m at a point in my life where I know who my supporters are, and I don’t take that for granted.”
