Woolworths in partnership with the Royal Australian Mint has announced the release of a limited edition $2 coins to celebrate the upcoming games. As excitement builds for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris Australians have a unique opportunity to show their support for their athletes in a special way.

The Royal Australian Mint CEO, Leigh Gordon, expressed pride in honouring the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams with these dedicated coins.

“These keepsakes will be treasured for years to come, and will serve as a reminder of the sense of pride and achievement we have in our athletes,” Gordon stated.
Collecting the Coins
Starting Wednesday, customers paying with cash at Woolworths stores will have the chance to receive these limited edition $2 coins in their change. Over the next eight weeks, one new design will be released every two weeks, making for an exciting collection period.
$2 Coin Designs
Each of the four new coins features a unique design, celebrating different aspects of the Olympic and Paralympic spirit:
- Community: This coin highlights a pillar of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) combined with the AOC logo, symbolizing the sense of community and support for the athletes.
- Allezaus: Combining the popular European sports chant “Allez” (meaning “Let’s Go”) with the Australian Olympic kangaroo mascot breakdancing, this coin honours the new sport featured at Paris 2024.
- Olympism: Embracing the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, this coin features the word “Olympism” alongside the official Australian team mascot, the Parisian Boxing Kangaroo.
- Paralympics: This coin showcases Lizzie, the frilled-neck lizard mascot, playing the Paralympic sport of Goalball, representing the strength and determination of para-athletes.

Andrew Hicks, Woolworths Group Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted the importance of these coins in showing support for the athletes.
