The aircraft, which took off from Bankstown Airport, went down shortly after 2:30 p.m., plummeting into trees near Terone Park oval at the intersection of Barrington Street and Restwell Road, close to Mary Immaculate Catholic Primary School. Remarkably, the 37-year-old male pilot and his 34-year-old female passenger escaped with minor injuries, according to NSW Police.

NSW Ambulance reported that both individuals were assessed at the scene but chose not to be transported to the hospital. The plane had taken off from Bankstown Airport at 2:23 p.m., crashing just five minutes later, reportedly due to engine failure.
Fire and Rescue NSW lauded the pilot for his decisive actions, which involved shutting down several onboard systems to make an emergency landing.

At the time of the crash, students from a nearby school were present in the sports park, but fortunately, none were injured. The aircraft, carrying approximately 340 liters of fuel, led Fire and Rescue NSW to establish a 100-meter fire protection zone to guard against any potential atmospheric changes or fuel leaks. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has initiated an investigation to uncover the exact cause of the crash.
