All about Australia for Kids

Share

Did you know that Australia is a country, a continent, and the world’s biggest island? It’s surrounded by the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and it’s one of the seven continents on Earth.

The first inhabitants were the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, arriving about 60,000 years ago from Indonesia. They invented tools like the spear and boomerang and lived in the Outback desert, which covers two-thirds of Australia.

Australia is home to unique animals like kangaroos, koalas, and Tasmanian devils. The Great Barrier Reef, the largest reef system in the world, and Uluru, the largest rock formation, are famous natural landmarks. The iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are notable manmade structures.
