Rainy Perth Winter Dampens Weekend Plans

Share

This winter in Perth has been rainy, with only two out of six weekends staying dry. For many nine-to-five workers who look forward to sunny weekends, this has been a tough season. Rain can be nice during the workweek, but it’s a different story when it rains on Saturdays just in time for lunch plans with friends. A chicken parmy and a pint aren’t quite the same with grey clouds and thunder.

June’s Rainy Start

Winter started with a lot of rain. On the first weekend in June, Sunday, June 2, alone saw 43.2 mm of rain, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The second weekend of June was better, with only 5.2 mm of rain over both days.

Even though it was less rain, it was still enough to make people want to skip their usual activities.

A Brief Break

The third weekend in June was a rare sunny one, giving people a chance to enjoy some much-needed sunshine. But the break was short-lived. The next weekend, June 22, brought 3.2 mm of rain on Saturday, dampening plans once again.

The last weekend of June provided another chance for some outdoor fun with no rain in sight.

July’s Continued Rain

June ended on a sunny note, and people hoped July would stay dry. However, the first weekend of July saw 6.6 mm of rain on Sunday, July 7, keeping everyone indoors with their jumpers and cups of tea.

Looking ahead to the weekend of July 13, there is a 10% chance of rain on Saturday and a 50% chance on Sunday, continuing the streak of rainy weekends.

Despite the challenges brought by the weather, the community’s resilience shines through as they adapt plans and find moments of joy even amidst the rain. With forecasts indicating a mix of sun and showers in the days to come, Perthites are gearing up to make the most of every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, ready to embrace whatever weather Mother Nature brings their way.
