Back in 2016 the NSW government announced plans to relocate the Sydney Fish Market the third-largest in the world, to a new site nearby. After years of planning and a $750 million upgrade approved in 2020, the new market is finally taking shape. With the project moving forward, a list of vendors for the new site has been revealed, and it looks like the new Sydney Fish Market (SFM 2.0) will be worth the wait.

The new Sydney Fish Market, designed by the famous Danish architecture firm 3XN, is expected to attract 6 million visitors each year. Popular Sydney shops and eateries are eager to be part of the action. According to the NSW Government, almost all the retail spaces at the new market, which is set to open in 2025, have already been filled. Big names like Luke Nguyen and Trippas White are set to open new venues in the waterfront precinct, thanks to $600 million in contracts awarded to local suppliers.

So far, confirmed vendors at the new Sydney Fish Market include popular Malaysian restaurant Ho Jiak, Cow and the Moon (known for some of the best gelato in Sydney), Nanjing Dumplings (famous for their delicious Chinatown dishes), and Dirty Red, a beloved brunch spot in the Inner West.

Celebrity chef Luke Nguyen will open a flagship Southeast Asian restaurant, and Trippas White (the team behind Bar 83, Me Gal, and Centennial Homestead) will launch a casual eatery offering lobster rolls and more. Plus, all the favorite fish market vendors like Claudio’s Seafood, Getfish, and Christies Seafood will be moving into brand-new stores.

The redesign of the Sydney Fish Market is a key part of transforming Blackwattle Bay. The area will also see 300 new homes, lots of new shops, and 6,000 square meters of public space, including new cycling paths and a large waterfront park.

The revamped area will open directly onto a new waterfront boardwalk, which will stretch 15 kilometers around Sydney Harbour, connecting Woolloomooloo in the city center to Rozelle Bay in the Inner West. By 2025, you’ll be able to walk, eat sushi, and enjoy the stunning waterfront views all in one place.
