Four-Year-Old Girl Injured in Dingo Attack on Kgari

A four-year-old girl has been airlifted to a hospital following a dingo attack on Kgari. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service reported that the incident occurred near Ngkala Rocks on the island’s eastern side, where a large group, including eight children, was fishing. The attack happened just before 11:15 a.m. today, with the girl sustaining a bite to her chest along with scratches and bruising.

Medical Attention and Transport

A nearby doctor provided initial medical attention to the injured child. Rangers then advised the family to seek further medical assistance from paramedics. The Queensland Ambulance Service assessed her condition, and she was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition.

Dingo Monitoring and Safety Precautions

Rangers are now closely monitoring the male dingo responsible for the attack. Queensland authorities are urging visitors to exercise caution on the island by traveling in groups, keeping children close, carrying a safety stick, and maintaining a safe distance from dingoes.

Reporting Dingo Encounters

Visitors who witness or experience a dingo engaging in dangerous behavior—such as circling, lunging, nipping, biting, chasing, or tearing tents and stealing property—are urged to report the incident to a nearby ranger or call 07 4127 9150. In case of emergency, dial triple zero.
